Dopo cinque intensi anni di attività, regate ed impegno comune per la disabilità in mare, è con grande dispiacere che mi ritrovo ad annunciare la separazione di Cadamà Sailing da I Timonieri Sbandati e le mie dimissioni da vice presidente dell’associazione.
After five very intense years of shared activities, regattas and committment toward disabilities and sea accessibility Cadamà Sailing and I Timonieri Sbandati cease their joint ventures and I resign as Vice President of the Association.
Le nostre strade si dividono.
Rimangono saldi l’amicizia che ci lega ed i reciproci impegni che porteremo avanti parallelamente.
We go our separate ways. What remains is our friendship, and our commitments which from now on we’ll bring forward independently
S/Y Cadamà tornerà a solcare il mare e ad impegnarsi nel suo progetto per l’inclusione e per la vela d’altura per tutti da settembre 2023.
Continueremo a portare avanti il sogno di Cadamà con la determinazione di sempre ma con nuova energia, nuove capacità e soprattutto nuovi e più grandi traguardi

S/Y Cadamà will be back in September 2023 with its Inclusion and High Seas Sailing for All programs. We will keep bringing forward our Dream with the ususal determination but with renewed enthusiasm, new capabilities and new and greater objectives
Sette! Si dice che il sette sia un numero mistico, che porti fortuna e rappresenti protezione e sicurezza; addiritura in passato pare fosse simbolo di vita eterna e perfezione e, si racconta, che sette siano gli anni per arrivare alla crisi di coppia. Per me è il settimo anno da armatore di una splendida creatura, sette anni di amore puro e disperazione profonda quanto il pozzo in cui finiscono i miei averi, sì perchè chiunque conosca il mondo dei “Legni” sa bene che non è mai finita, che ogni volta che credi tutto sia in ordine è il momento in cui arriva una nuova, imprevista rogna. Mille e una volta le ho detto “adesso basta, ti vendo!” eppure ogni volta che le arrivo di poppa, che guardo le sue eleganti linee mi si apre il cuore, sì, dopo sette anni riesco ancora a stupirmi di essere io il suo armatore, io un terraiolo rotolante!
Seven! It is said that seven is a mistic number that brings luck and represents safety and protection; it even seems in times past it was a symbol for eternal life and perfection while today it is whispered that seven are the years that bring to the first relationship crisis. For me seven are the years as owner of a wonderful creature, seven years of pure love and desperation as deep as the well my fortune is sunk in, yes! Because as anyone familiar with wooden boats would know, it’s a never ending story, each and evy time you dare presume everything is in order a new, unforseen problem arises. A thousand and one times I told her enough, I’m selling you! And yet, each and every time I come by her stern, that I see her beautiful, flowing lines my heart bursts. Yep, after seven years I still manage to surprise myself with being her owner, me, a rolling guy from the middle of Northern Italy flat lands!
Sette anni di avventura, di crescita, di panico e di successi e sogni avverati.
Sono diventato armatore di Cadamà il momento stesso in cui l’ho vista. Le sue dimensioni importanti mi hanno dato da subito la certezza che a bordo ci sarebbe stato spazio per ben più di una seggiola a rotelle mentre la sua bellezza… che dire, è stato amore a prima vista. Meno male, perchè senza quell’amore renderla accessibile evitando di sfasciare tutto, di stravolgere la sua classica bellezza sarebbe stato molto più difficile o molesto il recuperarne il degrado tra motore, sartiame, impianto elettrico e così via….
A seven years long adventure full of personal growing, success, panic and fulfilled dreams
I became the owner of Cadamà the very moment I saw her. Beam and length made me sure she could carry more than one wheelchair and her beauty, well, it was love at first sight. Lucky me because without that love, making her accessible to wheelchairs without butchering her or disfiguring her classic lines would have been next to impossible just as recovering her engine, rigging electric implant and so on would have been rather more unpleasant
Dal 2018 Cadamà regata nel circuito delle Vele Storiche con I Timonieri Sbandati, il suo equipaggio unico fatto di disabili e normodotati ed associazione sportiva dedicata al mondo della disabilità. Sono estremamente fiero di dire che in questi anni ci siamo regalati grandissime soddisfazioni e portato a casa ottimi risultati. L’anno passato sono riuscito a coronare l’altro mio sogno: Cadamà e i Timonieri Sbandati hanno tenuto il primo corso di vela d’altura su una vela classica dedicato a persone con disabilità
Starting in 2018 Cadamà has been racing the Italian Vintage and Classic Sails circuit with I Timonieri Sbandati (Leaning helmsmen) her unique crew composed of “bipeds” and people with disabilities that is also a non profit association and I’m quite proud to say we’ve brought home some very satisfying results. Also last year I was able to crown my other dream: Cadamà and I Timonieri Sbandati hosted their first high seas sailing camp for people with disabilities.
Arrivando ad oggi, sette anni e diversi sogni raggiunti potrebbero essere il momento perfetto per porre fine ad una bella storia ma come si fa a vivere senza sogni? Così al posto di lasciare vorrei raddoppiare! Sì, raddoppiare le cabine e i bagni accessibili così da poterci cimentare anche nelle regate più lunghe, lanciarci in nuove avventure spingendo sempre più in la i nostri limiti e barriere. Insomma, “Spazio, ultima frontiera!” Cadamà non sarà l’Entrerprise ma la voglia di avventura e il senso di meraviglia sono quelli, ruote o non ruote!
Seven years and several fulfilled dreams could be the perfect moment to end a beautiful story but how can anyone live without dreams? So instead of ending this story I would like to double it! Yes. double, double the accessible cabins and bathrooms so not to be confined to single day regattas, to allow for new and longer adventures and push further our limits and barriers. So, “Space, the final frontier” Cadamà is surely not the Enterprise but that yearning for adventure, that intangible sense of wonder are the same with or without wheels
ALTURA SENZA BARRIERE –OPEN WATERS WITH NO BARRIERS
Il primo corso di altura a bordo di un Maxi-Yacht Classico dedicato alle persone con disabilità motorie
Dal 11 al 13 Giugno S/Y Cadamà
ed l’a.s.d I Timonieri Sbandati organizzano il primo corso al mondo di vela d’altura
per persone con disabilità su un yacht classico.
Dopo un primo approccio alla
barca ed alla gestione della sicurezza a bordo, otto allievi con disabilità
diverse salperanno dal porto della città di Viareggio alla volta della splendida
Portovenere dove pernotteranno per poi rientrare il giorno seguente. Durante i
due giorni di navigazione scuola, sotto l’esperta supervisione di istruttori
federali, si alterneranno nei diversi ruoli e manovre di bordo imparando le
basi della navigazione d’altura.
Obiettivi del corso sono l’insegnamento della sicurezza in mare, della marineria e dello sport velico come arricchimento personale ed esperienza di gruppo oltre all’autonomia come base per l’autostima. Infine è nostra intenzione preparare nuovi allievi per l’equipaggio di regata di Cadamà.
Varata nel
1971 su progetto di Laurent Giles, Cadamà è un un legno classico di 22 metri
armato a ketch reso dal suo attuale armatore completamente accessibile e
vivibile per le persone in seggiola a rotelle. E’ il primo Maxi classico al
mondo a regatare con un equipaggio misto di persone con disabilità e
normodotati ed insieme all’associazione I Timonieri Sbandati ha fatto
dell’amore per il mare, per lo sport, per l’avventura e l’emozione i valori
fondanti nella lotta a tutte le barriere, mentali e fisiche.
S/Y Cadamà e I Timonieri Sbandati sono fieri di condividere questa prima edizione del progetto con la Capitaneria di Porto di Viareggio che chi ci dona il suo supporto logistico per l’ormeggio e con la Guardia Costiera che ci onora del suo patrocinio; con il Comune di Viareggio, casa della nostra associazione e con il nostro partner di sempre, la Sezione di Padova della Lega Navale Italiana da cui molti di noi provvengono.
Infine ringraziamo di cuore la Sezione della Lega Navale Italiana di La Spezia per il generoso supporto logistico a terra per i nostri speciali allievi. Con loro un sentito ringraziamento per il loro fondamentale patrocinio va al Club Nautico Versilia da sempre al nostro fianco, le Vele Storiche di Viareggio, A.I.V.E. The first Open Sea Sailing Camp on board of a Classic Maxi-Yacht dedicated to people with a moving impairment
starting on friday June 11th to evening of sunday 13th S/Y Cadamà and the association I Timonieri Sbandati will host the first ever open seas sailing camp dedicated to people with moving disabilities onboard a classic maxi-yacht
After a first visit to the yacht and learning the main concepts for onboard safety, eight alumns will set sails from Viareggio to the beautiful Portovenere where they’ll spend the night before returning to the port of origin. While under sail the alumns will take turns at the different roles aboard and learn the basics of open seas navigation under the watchful expertise of two federal instructors.
Main objectives of the sailing camp are the teaching of safety at sea, seafaring and the sport of sailing as a personal enrichment and group experience together with self-reliance as a starting point for self-esteem. Lastly we aim to grow new members for S/Y Cadamà regattas team.
Launched in 1971 on a Laurent Giles project, S/Y Cadamà is a classic 72 ft (22 meters) Marconi ketch made fully accessible and “livable” for people on wheelchairs. It’s the first Maxi to race with a mixed crew of standing and seated persons and together with I Timonieri Sbandati has made Love for the Sea, for the Sport of Sailing and Adventure our founding values in the battle against barriers, both phisical and mental
S/Y Cadamà and I Timonieri Sbandati are proud to share their project with Capitaneria di Porto di Viareggio providing us with logistical support and berthing and with with the Coast Guard granting us the honour of their patronage; with the City of Viareggio, home to our association and with our staunch partner Padova section of Lega Navale Italiana, of which the majority of us is a member.
A special, heartfelt thank you is reserved to La Spezia section of Lega Navale Italiana for their patronage and lodging support for our special alumns. With them our thanks for their patronage goes to Club Nautico Versilia, always by our side, Vele Storiche Viareggio, A.I.V.E.
